Press Release: That Clare single release “GET AWAY” (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
Teesside music producer, That Clare, dives deep into her coming out story backed by a hypnotic dance track in her post-punk hit GET AWAY.
FFO: Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, Everything But The Girl.
With a catalogue of protest songs under her belt you might be expecting more of the same, but this time That Clare is diving deep into the personal journey of transition, coming out and the implications for your mental health and those around you. Whilst you might expect such a difficult topic to weigh heavy, she reels you in by wrapping it up in a hypnotic beat that makes you want to dance. “I needed to write this song and share it. Whilst there are some in the more rightwing press and politics that would have you believe that being trans is a decision made on a whim, this is a song that explores the reality of how difficult it is, the privilege you experience before transition and the effects it has as you embark on this journey. Of course I didn’t want you to wallow in despair, Get Away is two fingers back to the haters that we will be our authentic selves and have a good time to boot.”
The latest release from That Clare, Get Away, is the story of a deeply personal journey with life changing consequences. With vibes of the early 90s dance tracks Clare bravely bares her soul in this hypnotic track that is extremely catchy. It follows the trend of her recent releases with a very ambient synthy groove over percussion that you will find yourself tapping along to. The subject may be deep but the feel is very pop, along with that post-punk melancholy. Think EBTG in their Todd Terry era! Official streaming release is 28th November but you can sneak it early on Bandcamp now.
Written, produced and recorded in her home studio she shows once again how her confidence is growing following the PRS Residency at The Green Room earlier this year. Get Away will feature on her debut album due 23rd February 2026 which will be followed by a tour of performances across the North East & further afield supported by other local performers from across the region.

Teesside music producer, That Clare, takes aim at politicians & media moguls divide and conquer tactics with her synthwave punk hit THAT OTHER.
FFO: Nine Inch Nails, New York Dolls, Lambrini Girls
Imagine a world where we all get along, politicians support the most vulnerable members of society applauded by a media landscape that constantly looks out for the best in all of us and values everyone regardless to their background or circumstances.
“Wouldn’t that be nice”, proclaims That Clare, “It’s so obvious what is going on once you’re identified as a target group, the divide and conquer tactics of the political class fuelled by complicit media moguls stick out like a sore thumb”. “You’ve got to be true to yourself though, don’t apologise, you are enough.”
That Other, the latest single from North-East singer songwriter That Clare is a riotously angry darkwave electronic classic with vibes of early punk pioneers Television & Suicide(band).
It’s a snapshot of the world in 2025, reflecting on the rise of far-right ideology fuelled by a complicit media & political class that seek to push us all down by marginalising minority groups one at a time. Clare reflects on the way that however you identify you’re a target “I am that other”, but seeing those around her that are the next target she says to stand up and be proud of who you are shouting “You are enough, you are enough, you are enough!”. This is in your face, exciting, harsh and gritty, full of crushed and distorted bass arpeggios and soaring synthy lead solos with and an up-tempo beat that leaves you breathless.
The track was written, produced and recorded by That Clare and completed with renowned North East producer Lisa Murphy at Production Room in Newcastle. It is the second release from That Clare’s debut album “Social Konstrukt”, due later this year. It’ll be released on Thursday 4th September 2025 via all major streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and BandCamp.
Teesside musicmaker, That Clare tackles the vilification of minority groups by politicians and law-makers head on with her dark synthwave punk classic.
FFO: Depeche Mode, Everything But The Girl, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails
It’s impossible to avoid conversations about race, immigration, disability and trans rights that are constantly cycling through the media and out of the mouths of politicians right now. Teesside’s politically charged music maker That Clare is frankly sick of it. “I’m not a protest songwriter purely for the fun of it, these experiences cut deep for many of us. Yes, I see the world from a trans person’s perspective, but once you identify with becoming the scapegoat, you start to see what they’re doing to other groups too. I’m not going to keep quiet about it and my songs are a way to push back”.
New single, Just Because, is a low-end heavy, post-punk banger with biting lyrics and a grungy 90s vibe with notes of SOFAD-era Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. The drop to half speed tempo nearer the end of the track emphasises the frustration and anger, with heavy distortion on the vocals and the sound of keyboard warriors tapping away in the background, she proclaims “I am worthy, Don’t ignore me, Don’t oppress me, You don’t impress me.”
